College Advisory
January 11, 2025 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
High school students are invited to embark on their college exploration journey at our College Advisory event, led by HBMS Dean Christopher Kenniff. Gain valuable insights from guest speaker Barbra Weidlein, an authority on university, conservatory, and liberal arts music programs. The event also includes panels featuring college admissions officers and HB alumni who will discuss their experiences with preparing for college, the application and audition process, and studying music at the university level. We encourage active participation and interaction between parents and students throughout the event to maximize the learning experience.
Colleges represented on the panel include admissions officers from Carnegie Mellon University School of Music, McGill University Schulich School of Music, Oberlin Conservatory, and the University of Michigan School of Music Theatre and Dance.
Please note that this is a hybrid event and can be attended either in person or online via Zoom.
Special Guest Speaker: Barbra Weidlein, Director, MajoringInMusic.com
Ms. Weidlein will share ways in which students may keep music in one’s life after high school including majoring, minoring, and double majoring in music; how to figure out if majoring in music is the right way to proceed (including the value of summer music programs); careers in music including and beyond performance; skills music majors gain and how they are transferable to other careers; encouraging lifelong engagement in music however one moves forward; as well as other topics of interest.
