Eliza Falk recently graduated from Boston University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and a minor in Special Education. Eliza decided to pursue Music Education seriously during the COVID-19 pandemic when she experienced the power of music and observed its ability to uplift and connect people during this period of extreme sadness and uncertainty. She truly believes music is one of the most effective ways to build community, increase confidence, reduce stress, and make people feel joyful.
At Boston University, Eliza felt it was very important to work with the student body to create an inclusive environment, enabling all students the opportunity to sing and learn from one another. Her Special Education minor gave her an additional 50 hours of fieldwork, teaching her how to break down ideas so that all students receive instruction that meets their needs. Music can be both fun and therapeutic, and therefore needs to be taught using an equitable approach so that everyone can experience its community-building properties. Most recently, she founded a Boston University organization called Etc. Choir. In this organization, students work together to learn music of diverse genres and perform in a summative concert for friends and family, regardless of their musical background or abilities.
While pursuing her degree with a classical voice concentration, Eliza performed in various ensembles, conducted musical theater productions as well as sang with the jazz big band at Boston University. She understands that singing can be very daunting and intimidating and sees the importance of encouraging young singers to take risks, not be afraid of making mistakes, and enjoy learning in the music classroom.
Growing up in upper Westchester County, you will find Eliza walking her dog next to the Hudson River, eating soft serve ice cream next to the Croton Gorge waterfall, and catching a concert with friends and family at the nearby waterfront. She is beyond excited to work with and learn from the students in the HBMS community!
