Born and raised in New York City, Daniel Conant began studying Hindustani classical music at the age of 11. During his teenage years he performed on the sitar in venues across the United States and India. Since switching his focus to the classical guitar at age 18, Daniel has become a champion for guitar music new and old.
Daniel has performed at prestigious NYC venues such as Weill Recital Hall, Symphony Space, and the Morgan Library and Museum. He has performed internationally in Italy, Belgium, Mexico, and Canada, where he was a prizewinner at the Hamilton International Guitar Competition. Devoted to new music, Daniel has premiered works by composers Alba Potes, William Anderson, and Jonathan Dawe, among others. Daniel is also an active chamber musician, and in October 2023, he released an album of chamber music for flute, viola, and guitar with Nina Sivošová and Ema Tufekčić.
Daniel holds a Bachelor of Arts from Sarah Lawrence College where he studied with guitarist-composer William Anderson. He earned a Master of Music with honors from the Eastman School of Music where he worked closely with guitarist Nicholas Goluses and lutenist Paul O’Dette. In 2020, he was awarded a grant from the Belgian-American Educational Foundation to study with Raphaëlla Smits at Lemmens Institute in Leuven, Belgium.
Since 2017 Daniel has taught music privately and at various institutions in the US and Belgium, including NY String Academy, Wonderful World International Music School, and the Arthur Satz Department of Music at the University of Rochester.
