Dr. Marilyn An is a pianist and educator from Shenyang, China. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from the University of South Carolina, a Master of Music from Texas State University, and a Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School of Music. Her musical training encompasses extensive solo, chamber, and collaborative repertoire, with frequent performances across the United States, England, and China. 

Dr. An has presented solo recitals in venues such as the Liaoning Grant Theatre and Liu Ning Piano School. While at the University of South Carolina, she performed annual solo recitals, multiple chamber recitals, and collaborated with saxophone, clarinet, string, and voice studios. Internationally, she premiered Dr. John Traill’s Four Water Pieces at Oxford University as part of the Cornish-American Song Institute, where she also served as artist fellow during the 2017 and 2018 seasons. 

She has been featured at the New York Summer Music Festival, performing in piano quartets, string quintets, and coaching young musicians in technique, sight-reading, and ensemble rehearsal. She performed Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Liaoning Province Shiyan High School Orchestra. She later won first place in the Texas State University Concerto and Aria Competition, performing Saint-Saëns’s Piano Concerto No. 2. 

A dedicated teacher for more than a decade, Dr. An maintains a private piano studio and has taught at the University of South Carolina, Texas State University, and major summer festivals. Fluent in Chinese and English, she brings an international perspective to her teaching and performance.
