During the 1980”s, Barbara established the Suzuki Program at HBMS and remains a long-time faculty member at the school. She also taught at The School for Strings (NYC’s flagship Suzuki school) for 10 years, and currently is an Adjunct Violin Teacher (24 years) at CUNY Queens College.
Over 12 years, Barbara established the thriving String Program in the Edgemont Public Schools, and currently teaches Strings/Orchestra in the Pleasantville Public Schools.
Her career began during graduate school as an orchestral performer holding positions with the Rochester Philharmonic and Syracuse Symphony. Upon relocating to NYC, she became Assistant Concertmaster of the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, and performed with numerous freelance orchestras and chamber groups in the NYC area. She continues to perform full time in the summers with the Chautauqua Symphony, Ballet, and Opera orchestras. She has performed with virtually all major instrumental soloists, singers, dancers, actors, and conductors; in a large variety of musical styles and concert venues ranging from Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center to Radio City Music Hall and Broadway show tours. She has appeared as concerto soloist with the Colorado Philharmonic, the Chautauqua Festival Orchestra, and several Rochester area orchestras.
Her students consistently win honors positions in NYC area festivals, are accepted into prestigious summer music programs and college conservatories, and have gone on to professional careers in music performance, composition, and teaching. She has been a Suzuki Violin Clinician at NY/NJ/CT and Washington, DC Suzuki programs and is the Coordinator of the HBMS Suzuki Strings Department.
