Alan Hollander, oboist, music educator, and conductor, has been a professional musician since the age of 18. He has been principal oboist and featured as a soloist with numerous ensembles throughout the New York metropolitan area. For the past twenty years, he has been Music Director of the Westchester Band. He has guest-conducted the American Wind Symphony, Larchmont Symphony, Westchester Pops, and various other ensembles throughout the region.

Mr. Hollander is a retired professor of Music at Lehman College, where he taught Music Education and Conducting courses. He is currently the Director of the Lehman College Community Band and has also been a professor of oboe at Hofstra University.

Professor Hollander is also quite active as a clinician/conductor in public school music throughout New York State, leading All County and All State Festival Ensembles. For 29 years, he was Director of Music and Instrumental Ensembles in the Edgemont Public Schools, and for the past eighteen years has been Editor of Oboe, English Horn, Double Reed Ensemble, and Woodwind Quintet sections of the NYSSMA Manual.

He is currently working on a book soon to be published, “The Care and Feeding of Your Community Band.’’ Mr. Hollander is also the sole manufacturer of GordetOboes, and in his spare time he enjoys boating, fishing, and hiking.
