Guitar Master Class with Zoë Johnstone Stewart

Zoë Johnstone Stewart is a performer, educator, and arts administrator based in the Baltimore area. She serves as Executive Director of the Guitar Foundation of America and is a member of the guitar faculty at the Peabody Preparatory, where she also teaches Guitar Pedagogy at the Peabody Conservatory. From 2019–2025, she chaired the Preparatory Guitar Department, overseeing curriculum development, faculty mentorship, and major performance and educational initiatives.
A dedicated educator, Stewart mentors students from their earliest musical studies through collegiate programs. She is a sought-after guest clinician and lecturer, presenting masterclasses and workshops at institutions including the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Levine School of Music, and the Guitar Foundation of America’s National School Summit. In 2023, she received the Suzanne Seff Kuff Excellence in Teaching Award from the Peabody Preparatory.
As a performer, Stewart has appeared extensively throughout the northeastern United States as a soloist and chamber musician. A founding member of the Atlantic Guitar Quartet, she has performed for the Baltimore Classical Guitar Society, Ulster Chamber Music Series, Marshall University, Loyola University, and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Recent engagements include a concerto appearance with the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra, performances on the Naval Academy Band Recital Series, and the world premiere of Edmund Scott Miller’s Storied for the Baltimore Classical Guitar Society.
Stewart founded the Evergreen Academy of Talent Education, a Suzuki guitar program in Baltimore, and remains active as a clinician, adjudicator, and mentor. She holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, and Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University.
