Join us for Hoff-Barthelson’s 49th annual Flute Plus!, a day devoted to all things flute, featuring internationally renowned flutist, composer, improviser, author, teacher, and inventor Robert Dick.
Universally regarded as a transformative leader in contemporary flute music, Robert Dick has redefined the expressive possibilities of the instrument through his groundbreaking work with extended techniques, improvisation, composition, and the invention of the Glissando Headjoint®. His artistry bridges classical music, jazz, world music, and new sound worlds, inspiring flutists around the globe.
11:00 am–1:00 pm: Lecture-Demonstration with Robert Dick
Explore throat tuning, multiphonics, circular breathing, and other extended flute techniques. Students will have the opportunity to try these techniques and work with Robert Dick on selected works or excerpts.
1:00–2:00 pm: Lunch Break
2:00–2:45 pm: Recital by Robert Dick
Featuring performances of Flute Photosynthesis, Lookout, and Flying Lessons *
3:00–4:00 pm: HBMS Flute Ensemble Performances
Featuring the Junior Flutes, Flute Club, and Adult Flute Choir
Robert’s books, CDs, and Glissando Headjoints® will be available for purchase during the event.
