America 250 in Music: The Late 1900s—Minimalism, Cage, and Rock & Roll

Presented by Hoff-Barthelson Music School in collaboration with Scarsdale Adult School, America 250 in Music is a four-part lecture series led by Dr. Derek Cooper in recognition of America’s 250th anniversary. From the 18th century to today, the series traces how diverse cultures, communities, and defining events have shaped the music of the United States.
Examine the bold experiments of John Cage, the development of minimalism through composers such as Steve Reich and John Adams, and the rise of rock and roll, pop, and other musical styles that transformed American culture during the second half of the 20th century.
Tuition: $40 per lecture or $150 for the complete four-lecture series.
