America 250 in Music: The 1700s—Hymns, Ballads, and the Music of Revolution

Presented by Hoff-Barthelson Music School in collaboration with Scarsdale Adult School, America 250 in Music is a four-part lecture series led by Dr. Derek Cooper in recognition of America’s 250th anniversary. From the 18th century to today, the series traces how diverse cultures, communities, and defining events have shaped the music of the United States.
Explore the religious music of early America, along with popular ballads and the work of pioneering American composers such as William Billings. This lecture will also examine the music that accompanied the Revolutionary War and reflected the ideals and experiences of a nation taking shape.
Tuition: $40 per lecture or $150 for the complete four-lecture series.
