A vital part of Hoff-Barthelson’s mission is to bring the transformational power of music into the local community. In partnership with local social service, health, and education institutions, we offer group instruction to young children and teens from challenging circumstances and neighborhood concerts for older adults who would otherwise have little or no access to music. Programs are supported through institutional grants, individual contributions, and through the School’s operations.
In partnership with the White Plains Youth Bureau, Hoff-Barthelson Music School provides year-round music classes – currently in guitar and percussion – free-of-charge for White Plains students in grades 5 to 12.
- Students in percussion classes explore musical styles from around the world while learning rhythmic notation and a variety of different instruments.
- Guitar students gain hands-on experience in the fundamentals of guitar technique, music reading, and styles spanning the grooves of Latin America to rock ‘n’ roll classics to today’s pop hits.
This innovative collaboration with the Youth Bureau enables both organizations to foster musical talent and engagement within the local youth community.
