Piano Master Class with Roberto Plano

Italian pianist Roberto Plano has established an international career as both a performer and educator. He has appeared at major venues including Lincoln Center, Wigmore Hall, Sala Verdi, Salle Cortot, and Munich’s Herkulessaal, and has performed with orchestras throughout Europe and North America under conductors including Sir Neville Marriner, James Conlon, Pinchas Zukerman, and Miguel Harth-Bedoya. His festival appearances include the Ravinia Festival, Gilmore International Keyboard Festival, Newport Music Festival, Portland Piano International Festival, Chopin Festival in Poland, and Bologna Festival.

Plano won First Prize at the 2001 Cleveland International Piano Competition and was a finalist at the 2005 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and the Busoni Competition, with additional prizes at the Honens, Dublin, Sendai, Géza Anda, and Valencia competitions. He has recorded more than 20 commercial albums, including a DECCA Classics release of Liszt’s Harmonies poétiques et religieuses.

Equally distinguished as an educator, Plano joined the faculty of Boston University in 2016 and later served as Associate Professor of Piano at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He is currently Professor of Piano and Chair of Keyboard Studies at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano and International Visiting Professor of Piano at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

A sought-after teacher, master class clinician, and adjudicator, Plano has served on juries for major international competitions, including the Van Cliburn, Honens, and Seoul International Music Competition, and continues to mentor emerging pianists internationally.
