AeRee Kim began her piano career in the United States at the age of seventeen after receiving an invitation to study with Ruth Slencyznska at Southern Illinois University. Dr. Kim received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from S.I.U. and went on to pursue graduate studies with Ania Dorfmann and Jacob Lateiner at the Juilliard School of Music, where she received a Master of Music degree, and with Martin Canin at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where she received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree.

Dr. Kim has been the winner of several competitions, including the American Music Scholarship Association Competition, the Music Teachers National Association Competition, and the Rosanna M. Enlow Young Artist Competition. She has also performed in master classes given by such distinguished artists as Artur Rubinstein and Gina Bachauer. As winner of the St. Louis Artist Presentation Award, Dr. Kim had her debut solo recital in St. Louis, Illinois, which received much critical acclaim. Her New York debut recital at Carnegie Recital Hall and recitals across major concert halls in her native country, South Korea, were also similarly well-received. Dr. Kim has also appeared with orchestras and chamber groups, including at Merkin Concert Hall with the Atlantic Sinfonietta, the Long Island Oyster Bay Beethoven Festival with the Virtuosi Woodwind Quintet, and the Music in the Mountains Festival in New Paltz, New York. Dr. Kim has been on the music faculty at Long Island University since 1991.
