SUMMARY:Piano Master Class with Roberto Plano
DESCRIPTION:Italian pianist Roberto Plano has established an international career as both a performer and educator. He has appeared at major venues including Lincoln Center\, Wigmore Hall\, Sala Verdi\, Salle Cortot\, and Munich’s Herkulessaal\, and has performed with orchestras throughout Europe and North America under conductors including Sir Neville Marriner\, James Conlon\, Pinchas Zukerman\, and Miguel Harth-Bedoya. His festival appearances include the Ravinia Festival\, Gilmore International Keyboard Festival\, Newport Music Festival\, Portland Piano International Festival\, Chopin Festival in Poland\, and Bologna Festival. \nPlano won First Prize at the 2001 Cleveland International Piano Competition and was a finalist at the 2005 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and the Busoni Competition\, with additional prizes at the Honens\, Dublin\, Sendai\, Géza Anda\, and Valencia competitions. He has recorded more than 20 commercial albums\, including a DECCA Classics release of Liszt’s Harmonies poétiques et religieuses. \nEqually distinguished as an educator\, Plano joined the faculty of Boston University in 2016 and later served as Associate Professor of Piano at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He is currently Professor of Piano and Chair of Keyboard Studies at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano and International Visiting Professor of Piano at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. \nA sought-after teacher\, master class clinician\, and adjudicator\, Plano has served on juries for major international competitions\, including the Van Cliburn\, Honens\, and Seoul International Music Competition\, and continues to mentor emerging pianists internationally. \nMaster Classes are open to the public to observe free of charge.

DESCRIPTION:Israeli cellist Zvi Plesser enjoys an international career as a soloist\, chamber musician\, educator\, and music director. For more than three decades\, he has performed and taught around the world\, bringing the same commitment to appearances in major concert halls and to his work with young musicians. \nAs a soloist\, Plesser has performed extensively with Israel’s leading orchestras\, including the Israel Philharmonic\, Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra\, Israel Symphony Orchestra\, Jerusalem Camerata\, Israel Chamber Orchestra\, and Haifa Symphony. Internationally\, he has appeared with ensembles including the Berlin Philharmonic\, Academy of St Martin in the Fields\, National Symphony Orchestra in Washington\, D.C.\, Shanghai Philharmonic\, and Hamburg Symphony\, working with distinguished conductors including Zubin Mehta\, Sir Neville Marriner\, and Omer Meir Wellber. \nAn active chamber musician\, Plesser has performed at Carnegie Hall\, Wigmore Hall\, Berlin Philharmonie\, Vienna Konzerthaus\, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées\, and the Louvre\, as well as at major festivals throughout Europe\, Asia\, Israel\, and the United States. He served for a decade as music director of Israel’s Voice of Music in the Upper Galilee chamber music festival and later co-founded the Mu-Zi Festival. \nA graduate of The Juilliard School\, where he studied with Zara Nelsova\, Plesser is a professor at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance\, where he has also served as Head of Strings and Director of the Nazarian Chamber Music Program. He has taught at institutions in the United States and Germany and has been a faculty member of the Perlman Music Program since 2017. DESCRIPTION:Each year\, the HB Compose Yourself! Project Master Class allows young composers to share their original music and develop their creative voices. Directed by Dr. Derek Cooper in partnership with Copland House\, the master class brings students together with accomplished professional composers for thoughtful feedback\, guidance\, and conversation about the compositional process. \nThis special event celebrates creativity\, musical exploration\, and the next generation of composers. \nOne of this year’s guest composers is Gilad Cohen. \n\nGilad Cohen is an active composer\, performer\, and theorist in genres including concert music\, rock\, and music for theater. His music was commissioned by ASCAP\, Barlow Endowment\, Chamber Music America\, Houston Art Alliance\, American Harp Society\, and Concert Artists Guild; won top prizes in international competitions in the US\, Europe\, and Asia; and was released on Albany Records\, Naxos/Delos\, and Navona Records. Venues that featured Gilad’s music include Carnegie Hall\, Sydney Opera House\, Budapest Music Centre\, Beijing Modern Music Festival\, Helsinki Music Centre\, Belgrade’s International Review of Composers\, and festivals in Switzerland\, Austria\, Italy\, Germany\, Poland\, Australia\, the UK\, Czechia\, USA\, Israel\, Malta\, and Canada. Gilad performs regularly with various ensembles on piano\, bass guitar and guitar. An Associate Professor of Music at Ramapo College of New Jersey\, Gilad holds a Ph.D. in composition from Princeton University\, where in 2014 he produced the first-ever academic conference devoted to Pink Floyd. \n \nAdditional composer information coming soon. \nMaster Classes are open to the public to observe free of charge. \n

SUMMARY:Flute Master Class with Mindy Kaufman
DESCRIPTION:Mindy Kaufman served as a member of the New York Philharmonic for 47 years\, from 1979 to 2026. A highly versatile musician\, she performed not only as the orchestra’s piccolo player but also in every chair of the flute section\, including principal flute on Live from Lincoln Center\, alto flute in Daphnis et Chloé and The Rite of Spring\, second flute\, and bass flute. During her distinguished tenure with the Philharmonic\, Ms. Kaufman appeared as both piccolo and flute soloist under former Music Directors Zubin Mehta\, Kurt Masur\, and Lorin Maazel. Prior to joining the New York\nPhilharmonic\, she joined the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra while still a student. She served for one season as substitute principal flute with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra\, during which time she recorded works by Dvořák and Kodály with music director Zdenek Macal. \nMs. Kaufman has performed at numerous music festivals and chamber music series\, including the Telluride Chamber Music Festival\, Moab Music Festival\, Grand Teton Music Festival\, Mt. Kisco Concert Association\, Mt. Desert Festival of Chamber Music\, and New York Philharmonic Ensembles. \nHer solo recordings include Avner Dorman’s Piccolo Concerto with the Metropolis Ensemble\, Vivaldi’s Piccolo Concerto with the New York Philharmonic\, and David Fulmer’s Sky’s Acetylene on which she performs piccolo\, flute\, and bass flute. She also released a solo recording\, French Flute Music. \nA graduate of the Eastman School of Music\, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree\, Ms. Kaufman studied with Walfrid Kujala\, Sir James Galway\, and Bonita Boyd. She is an auxiliary instrument instructor at Juilliard\, where she teaches piccolo. She previously taught flute and chamber music at Columbia University\, and continues to give master classes all over the USA. \nIn addition to her orchestral and teaching careers\, Ms. Kaufman has performed on more than 50 film and television soundtracks\, including The Devil Wears Prada 2\, Barbie\, Julie & Julia\, and The Gilded Age. \nA performer of remarkable artistry\, versatility\, and dedication\, Mindy Kaufman leaves an enduring legacy through her 47 years with the New York Philharmonic\, her recordings\, her teaching\, and the generations of musicians and audiences she has inspired. \nMaster Classes are open to the public to observe free of charge.

DESCRIPTION:Soprano Sari Gruber has earned international acclaim for her artistry on the opera\, concert\, and recital stages. Hailed as “nothing short of sensational” by Opera magazine and praised by The New York Times for her “direct musicality\,” she was awarded First Place in the prestigious Walter W. Naumburg Foundation International Vocal Competition. \nGruber has appeared with many of the world’s leading opera companies\, including Lyric Opera of Chicago\, New York City Opera\, Los Angeles Opera\, Netherlands Opera\, Maggio Musicale di Firenze\, Pittsburgh Opera\, Boston Lyric Opera\, Opera Theatre of St. Louis\, and the Saito Kinen Festival. Her extensive repertoire includes leading roles in Le nozze di Figaro\, Die Zauberflöte\, Rigoletto\, Roméo et Juliette\, La Bohème\, Don Giovanni\, and The Rake’s Progress. As a concert artist\, she has performed with the Boston Symphony\, Pittsburgh Symphony\, St. Louis Symphony\, Cincinnati Symphony\, Dallas Symphony\, and Philharmonia Baroque\, among others. \nAn accomplished recitalist\, Gruber has appeared at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center and has performed extensively with the New York Festival of Song. She is also deeply committed to vocal education\, teaching singers from the high school level through active professionals. SUMMARY:Violin Master Class with Adrian Anantawan
DESCRIPTION:Adrian Anantawan is a violinist\, educator\, disability advocate\, and cultural leader whose work bridges artistic excellence\, access\, and social impact. Born without a right hand\, he has built an international career as a performer and speaker\, appearing at the White House\, the United Nations\, and the opening ceremonies of the Athens and Vancouver Olympic Games\, and performing for Pope John Paul II\, the Dalai Lama\, and the late Christopher Reeve. He holds degrees from the Curtis Institute of Music\, Yale University\, and the Harvard Graduate School of Education\, and has studied with Itzhak Perlman\, Pinchas Zukerman\, and Anne-Sophie Mutter. \nAnantawan is Associate Professor of Strings at Berklee College of Music and Artistic Director of Shelter Music Boston\, with teaching appointments at Harvard University and Milton Academy. He helped create the Virtual Chamber Music Initiative at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital and founded the Music Inclusion Program\, advancing adaptive music-making opportunities for young people with disabilities. His work centers disability not as limitation\, but as a vital source of creativity\, identity\, and artistic leadership. \nIn recent years\, Anantawan has gained national attention for his leadership in disability arts and music inclusion\, including his work with Berklee’s Music Inclusion Ensemble\, a groundbreaking community of disabled musicians and allies supported by a Newbury Fellowship.
