DESCRIPTION:Hoff-Barthelson Music School presents award-winning Italian pianist Christian Pastorino in recital\, performing a program of works by Chopin\, Schumann\, Scriabin\, and Liszt. The evening will showcase Pastorino’s artistry across some of the piano repertoire’s most expressive and virtuosic works. \n\nProgram (subject to change) \nFryderyk Chopin – Scherzo in B-flat minor\, Op. 31 \nRobert Schumann – Fantasiestücke\, Op. 12 \nDes Abends\nAufschwung\nWarum?\nGrillen\nIn der Nacht\nFabel \nTraumes Wirren\nEnde vom Lied \nINTERMISSION \nAlexander Scriabin\nValse in A-flat major\, Op. 38\nDeux Poèmes\, Op. 32 \nAndante cantabile\nAllegro con eleganza\, con fiducia \nFranz Liszt – Hungarian Rhapsody No. 12 in C-sharp minor \n\nPraised for his poetic lyricism\, structural clarity\, and expressive depth\, Italian pianist Christian Pastorino is the First Prize winner of the 25th Franz Schubert International Competition (2025). The distinction marks a major milestone in his emerging international career and precedes his U.S. debut recitals in fall 2026. \nA laureate of the 2024 Paul Badura-Skoda Competition in Vienna and recipient of prizes at other international competitions\, Pastorino has established himself as a versatile pianist with a repertoire spanning the Classical and High Romantic traditions through the vivid musical languages of the early twentieth century. His repertoire ranges from Mozart and Beethoven to Ravel and Prokofiev\, reflecting both his affinity for the great Classical tradition and his interest in the diverse expressive worlds of later repertoire. \nPastorino has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician\, appearing in duo partnerships with violin and cello\, in piano trios\, and with larger ensembles. His engagements have taken him to leading Italian venues and festivals\, including Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa\, the Vatican Museums in Rome\, and the Ravenna Festival. His orchestral and chamber appearances include Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20\, K. 466\, with the Genoa Conservatory Orchestra under Antonio Tappero Merlo\, as well as Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in Vinzenz Lachner’s arrangement for piano and string quintet at the Teatro Sociale in Camogli. \nA frequent guest of the Giovine Orchestra Genovese\, Pastorino has also appeared at numerous festivals throughout Italy. His musical activities extend beyond the concert stage: he has recorded film soundtracks for Italy’s National Film School (Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia) in Rome. \nPastorino earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with highest honors (summa cum laude) from the “N. Paganini” Conservatory in Genoa. He subsequently completed a two-year advanced artist diploma at the Accademia di Musica di Pinerolo\, where he studied with Roberto Plano. He has also participated in masterclasses with distinguished pianists Andrea Lucchesini\, Riccardo Risaliti\, and Benedetto Lupo. \nHis 2026 U.S. debut marks the next chapter in a career distinguished by musical sensitivity\, intellectual depth\, and a distinctive commitment to the piano repertoire. \n  \nAdditional information coming soon.

DESCRIPTION:Please note that this event will be held online via Zoom. \nRSVP here to receive the Zoom link. \nHigh school students are invited to embark on their college exploration journey at our College Advisory event\, led by HBMS Dean Christopher Kenniff. Gain valuable insights from guest speaker Barbra Weidlein\, co-founder and director of MajoringInMusic.com\, the website providing tools and guidance to help pre-college students learn about options for continuing with music after high school. The event also includes panels featuring college admissions officers (TBA) and HB alumni who will discuss their experiences preparing for college\, the application and audition process\, and studying music at the university level. We encourage active participation and interaction between parents and students throughout the event to maximize the learning experience. \nSpecial Guest Speaker: Barbra Weidlein\, Director\, MajoringInMusic.com\nMs. Weidlein will share ways in which students may keep music in their life after high school including majoring\, minoring\, and double majoring in music; how to figure out if majoring in music is the right way to proceed (including the value of summer music programs); careers in music including and beyond performance; skills music majors gain and how they are transferable to other careers; encouraging lifelong engagement in music however one moves forward; as well as other topics of interest.
